Hundreds attend Lagoa art show

Arte Algarve celebrated another successful preview of their new exhibition OPEN VI on October 6 with a show of new artists and some sales both pre-show and on the day.

The gallery was full to the brim with around 700 visitors, enjoying acoustic guitar by Zé Manel and a glass of wine as they admired new works of art from over 55 artists.

The newly added ‘wing’ at the back of the gallery has allowed for more artists to take part this time and looked impressive with some of Vera Christians’ striking large canvasses. There is continued interest in the serene photographs by Alexandre Manuel, and Hilary Cunningham showed a collection of different works including ink and wash studies of local towns Silves and Ferragudo. The ceramic art by Jose Freire includes an amazing recreation of Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ consisting of hundreds of individually arranged pieces of mosaic.

Many of the visitors commented that they were impressed with how much the gallery has improved over the year and are keen to return for another look at the art.

OPEN VI exhibition runs until December 1. The gallery is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm and 3pm to 6pm.

Club evenings

Autumn at Arte Algarve will see the return of a popular social event that brings locals together. Every Thursday from 7pm the gallery will have musical entertainment as well as drinks and tapas to enjoy. The weekly event will take place in the centre of the gallery space so visitors can dance and socialise in the unique atmosphere of the gallery. The Club Evenings take place every Thursday at 7pm and cost €6 per person (including one glass of wine).
