After 18 years as the East Algarve Area Events Organiser for afpop, Linda Cree has stepped down from the role and is now focusing fully on StreetLife, the dog sterilisation charity she co-founded.
During her time with afpop, Linda organised more than 150 social and community events, helping to connect residents of many nationalities and strengthening social cohesion across the East Algarve.
“afpop has been a huge part of my life for nearly two decades, but the time felt right to step back and focus my energy where it’s most urgently needed,” said Linda.
That focus is now on the StreetLife Animal Sterilisation Programme, the East Algarve-based animal welfare charity Linda and her husband Graeme founded over eight years ago with the help and support of many afpop members.
StreetLife concentrates on preventative action through dog sterilisation – widely recognised as the most effective way to reduce abandonment and suffering.
StreetLife provides financial support to low-income families to sterilise their dogs and several local shelters who rescue stray and abandoned dogs to prevent more unwanted puppies.
To date, StreetLife has enabled over 1,600 dog sterilisations through their “Be Wise – Sterilise” campaigns, working in partnership with six local animal shelters and partner associations, supported by a trusted network of 11 veterinary clinics across the region.
Over the years, the charity has raised thousands of euros, all reinvested directly into sterilisation programmes and frontline animal welfare.
StreetLife operates through a strong, carefully built team of volunteers. Crucial to this work is the ongoing support of StreetLife’s sponsors and donors. Their contributions enable preventative, large-scale sterilisation that delivers lasting change.
Linda is a born organiser and will continue making “the East Algarve the fun place to be” by organising events for StreetLife, focusing on fundraising and outreach, supported by the charity’s “StreetLife Social Butterflies” team, who help organise events and initiatives to raise funds and awareness. The main idea is to have fun fundraising.
“Sterilisation changes everything — it prevents suffering before it starts,” said Linda.
