Rain on its way back!

IPMA “doesn’t rule out new floods”

From tomorrow until the end of next week Portugal will be affected by a new series of “frontal systems and/ or regional depressions” – bringing with them the possibility of a “cold snap” (isolated depression in the lower layer of the atmosphere).

This is the opening paragraph of an article in Correio da Manhã today, following a conversation with IPMA (meteorological institute) which has stressed that the periods of rain on the way will be far shorter than those experienced at the end of January/ early February.

However, because of the current saturation of land – and healthy river levels – IPMA has not excluded the possibility of new floods, says the paper.

What is certain is that ‘very uncertain’ weather is still with us – and the wonderfully warm temperatures of recent days are unlikely to repeat themselves too soon.

Madeira too has been put on ‘yellow alert’ due to the intensity of the wind from tomorrow, which could bring gusts of up to 95 km/ hour.
