Shine Bright Algarve to raise money for cancer support

Fundraising evening in Vilamoura set to support cancer charity AOA

A major charity fundraiser in support of the Algarve Oncology Association (Associação Oncológica do Algarve, AOA) will take place on Thursday, 16 October at the Thai Beach Club in Vilamoura. The Shine Bright Algarve event, organised by the Women of Loulé Facebook group, aims to raise funds for the region’s leading cancer support charity through ticket sales, sponsorship, an auction and an online raffle.

As organisers point out, AOA plays a vital role in providing support to cancer patients in the Algarve and their families, from patient transport and education to awareness campaign and other essential services, including for both national and foreign residents.

Last year’s Shine Bright Algarve raised €10,000, and organisers hope to exceed that total this year.

The event is made possible thanks to the support of sponsors including Luxury Yacht Charters, Blevins Franks, Quintas & Casas, Wines & Co (Welcome Drinks Sponsor), Grasshopper Greens, and Wendy & Clive Aranson, ensuring that more funds go directly to AOA’s work.

The evening runs from 5pm to 11.30pm, and tickets are priced at €70, which includes welcome drinks and canapés, with 50% of proceeds going directly to AOA. Guests will be welcomed on a red carpet with canapés and wines, followed by live performances from some of the Algarve’s top entertainers. A highlight of the evening will be the exclusive silent auction, headlined by the Howard’s Folly Wine Experience — a private wine tasting hosted at the winner’s home. An online raffle, open to the wider community, will feature prizes donated by local businesses, allowing participation even for those unable to attend in person, with 100% of the raffle and auction proceeds going directly to AOA.
