After a well-deserved Christmas holiday break, the Amigos de Música 2025/26 Concert Season resumes this month at Os Agostos countryside estate, near Santa Bárbara de Nexe.
For their next concerts on February 24 and 26, the Amigos de Música are welcoming Salvador Sanchez, a talented young Spanish pianist and composer from Elche, in Spain. After first studies in his home country, he later trained at St. Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh and graduated from the Royal College of Music in London.
Salvador is the winner of numerous awards including Second Prize at the 27th National Piano Competition in Toledo and the Isobel Dunlop Composition Award for his string quartet Black Rhapsody. He also received top honours at the Vigo International Piano Competition, where he was awarded Best Spanish Pianist.
In the Algarve, he will play works by some famous Spanish composers. On Tuesday (24th), Salvador will play the ‘Goyescas’, a suite for piano composed by Enrique Granados in 1911, inspired by the paintings and universe of Francisco de Goya. On Thursday (26th), he will play ‘Iberia’, Books I and III, composed by Isaac Albéniz, one of the most ambitious and influential piano cycles of the 20th century, inspired by landscapes and popular music traditions of Spain, and “Música Callada”, Book I, by Federico Mompou.
Both concerts will take place in the auditorium of Os Agostos. Doors will open at 6pm and the concert will begin at 7pm. Wine, fruit juices and canapés will be available before the concert and in the interval.
Entry donation, including refreshments, is €30 per person for “Amigos” guests and non-members, payable in advance by bank transfer (see website amigosdemusica.org).
