St.Trinians girls and boys invade Quinta

More than €750 was raised at a charity dinner at Quinta das Oliveiras on October 20, in aid of the Donkey Sanctuary in Estombar.

The theme for the evening was loosely advertised by the hosts Verna and Philip Kinder as a co-ed event from the schooldays of the 60s. The normal posh totty attire was discarded for a chance to dress up as the ‘Belles of St. Trinians’ in black mini skirts and school blouses, and some of the girls dressed up as well! Headmistress Verna Kinder ruled that the event should be held inside the main refectory due to the cooler evening temperatures.

The dinner bell sounded and over 50 guests filed into the dining hall in regimental order. The meal included a variety of traditional English school type food with the old favourites of shepherd’s pie, sausages and onions in gravy, various chicken pies and a cheese and onion pie.

The school cooks really surpassed themselves with a range of desserts that brought back memories, including bread and butter pudding, chocolate pudding with chocolate sauce, spotted dick, treacle tart, and custard without lumps.

Funds raised will be used to support the spaying and neutering programme at the Donkey Sanctuary. Mike Wakeford
