Residents and visitors in Armação de Pêra are being invited to celebrate the festive season with a splash, as the Annual Charity Swims return for their 22nd year.
The popular events will take place on Christmas Day (December 25) and again on New Year’s Day (January 1), from 10.30am to 12pm. The swims will be held on Armação de Pêra beach, near the former mini-golf area.

Participants are encouraged to take a dip in the sea – whether that means a full swim or just a paddle – with the simple rule being to get wet. To add to the festive spirit, swimmers are invited to wear Santa suits on Christmas Day and pyjamas on New Year’s Day.
The event is open to everyone, including adults and children. All participants take part “at their own risk,” organisers point out.
A voluntary donation is requested, with all funds raised going to the local parish council to support local families in need. Organisers say every contribution, no matter how small, will help make a real difference in the community.
The charity swims are organised by the Clube dos Veículos Clássicos do Barlavento (Barlavento Classic Vehicles Club). More information is available through the group’s Facebook page or by email (classicosdobarlavento@gmail.com).

“Come along and help make a difference this festive season,” organisers add.
