Festival Sol de Inverno (Winter Sun Festival) is back this January, promising to bring three lively days of festivities to Tavira’s Jardim do Sapal and prove once again that the Algarve does not hibernate in winter.
Now in its third edition, the festival continues to stay true to its original mission of fighting seasonality and celebrating the Algarve’s cultural fabric, with the support of Clube de Tavira and the parish union and municipal council of Tavira.

Billed as “the festival that warms up the Algarve”, Sol de Inverno spreads its programme across three winter months, with one special day in January, February and March. The idea is to provide good music and showcase local creativity and open-air living, even in the coldest months.
“The Sol de Inverno was created to show that the Algarve has cultural life all year round. We want to value what is ours – culture, local talent and the privilege of this climate,” said organiser Filipa Teixeira.
The festival kicks off on Saturday, January 17, with an eclectic line-up that includes an electronic performance by Rui Travasso and Vasco Ramalho (Museu Zer0), the Clube Tavira Jazz Band, Isabela & Zico and a vinyl set by Gaspar. Music starts around lunchtime and runs through to sunset.
February 21 will feature Nameless and the Chicken Nuggets and a live set from Rádio Horizonte with DJ Feders, while the winter finale takes place on March 21, with concerts by Riki & Izzy, Beira-Mar Band and Banda Atlântica, plus a sunset party with Marie Mon Amour to see the season off in style.
Throughout the day, visitors can also enjoy a market showcasing local artists and creators, street food, sports activities, workshops, a children’s area with games and sensory experiences, and even a space dedicated to animal welfare and adoption.
Organisers encourage people to come prepared: bring a blanket, friends, family – including four-legged members – and a good mood. Activities run from 11am until sunset, making the most of Tavira’s winter sunshine.
Admission is free.
