At Cadela Carlota in Lagos, we often see puppies arrive – tiny, fluffy, and quickly adopted. But some of the most overlooked dogs are those who have just passed the puppy stage: the one-year-olds.
At this age, their personalities are already formed, their size is set, and their energy is balanced – they’re still playful and curious, but no longer in the demanding baby phase. This week, we’d like to introduce three special boys, all about a year old, who were rescued from the streets of Lagos and are waiting patiently for their forever homes.
Peach was found in the middle of a road near Lagos in April, narrowly escaping being run over by passing cars. Covered in ticks and exhausted, he was taken in by Cadela Carlota volunteers and given the care he needed.
Today, Peach is a gentle, calm and sociable dog who loves both people and his four-legged friends. With his hunting-dog profile, he’s full of energy and curiosity – perfect for an active family that enjoys the outdoors. Hikes, long walks and adventures would make him happiest.
Charlie’s story is one of both love and heartbreak. He was rescued from the streets in May and taken in by a kind family who gave him the affection he craved. But Charlie proved to be very needy; he struggles with loneliness and becomes sad when left alone. Despite their care, the family realised they couldn’t meet his needs and brought him to the shelter in July, hoping he would find someone who could. Charlie is affectionate, lively and thrives on human attention.
Micky wandered the Albardeira area for days, living on scraps of food and the kindness of local residents who sheltered him in their yards. Eventually, he too found his way to Cadela Carlota. Micky is energetic and playful, but his time alone on the streets left him anxious and sometimes unsure of himself. He needs a calm, patient family to help him gain confidence and feel safe. In return, he’ll offer loyalty, playfulness, and a big heart.
Three different boys, three different personalities – but all share the same need: a forever home where they can finally leave the streets behind. Could one of them be your new best friend?
