The APAA Variety Show is a production to be proud of. Outstandingly brave and adventurous. When the Association for Protection of Animals Algarve (APAA) has an idea, it usually is a good one. Some are excellent, others unforgettable.
Congratulations to the entire team involved in the show, the brainchild of Anita Wight and Paul JC. Dare we ask for a follow-up? Time for recovery!
Proceeds from the show go towards helping abandoned animals, shelters, the APAA Spaying & Neutering Programme (SNiP), and much more.
Meantime, pup Pinha and her siblings (rescued in Silves) are settling into ‘Puppyland’; one managed to get homed by a family in the Alentejo looking for a large, friendly, but working dog. The young fellow was to be housed in a large kennel in a barn. Grandma had other ideas. He is now in the back of their warm kitchen on a huge comfy bed.
Jenny reports: “Their mother is being sterilised and fully vaccinated this week. They are beautiful puppies and will grow quite large. Early signs are they will make wonderful pets.” Her backroom has now returned to a guest room. “For the time being at least!” she grins.
As president of APAA, Jenny Clarke meets and greets all sorts of people and animals. “We are always looking for new members. Some like our association to help with donations, attending pop-ups and events. Others because it gives them something to do within the community. We aren’t choosy!” Jenny laughs. “We just love having members!”
The recent bad weather has forced many people to stay at home and there are newcomers to the Algarve who may just be finding out about APAA, its work within the community and how they can help. Visiting a shop or one of their famous pop-up shops is a start. “We have a mix of couples and singles, age groups, lifestyles … But we try to please our members. If we don’t, we ask you to let us know. If you have a venue which you feel is suitable for one of our pop-up shops, or an event, lunch with music or dinner, let us know.”
The association and its work, events and general contact information can always be found here and on Facebook (APAA Portugal).
