Coral: Atlantic flavours, Algarve roots

Restaurant at Vilalara Grand Hotel Algarve joins 2026 Michelin Guide Portugal for first time

Coral – Éden do Mar, the restaurant at Vilalara Grand Hotel Algarve in Porches, has been included in the recommended restaurants selection of the Michelin Guide Portugal 2026, marking its first presence in this international reference for gastronomy. The new edition of the guide was presented on March 10 in Funchal, Madeira, and included 34 new restaurants in this category.

Perched on top of a cliff and featuring an exclusive 22-seat dining room, Coral has been developing a gastronomic proposal centred on product and seasonality, built over time through consistency and a close relationship with local producers.

Fish from our coast, cold-water shellfish and vegetables sourced from producers between Monchique and Aljezur form the basis of tasting menus that interpret the Algarve in a contemporary way, prioritising precision, seasonality and respect for the product.

Rather than seeking immediate impact, Coral’s cuisine is built around the territory and a continuous dialogue with local producers, respecting the rhythm of the seasons. A cuisine that values time, balance and authenticity.

An approach that reflects the character of the project itself: discreet, attentive to the territory and deeply connected to the Atlantic.

“Coral is a project that has grown very organically, without haste or noise,” says Daniel Albarran, General Manager of Vilalara Grand Hotel Algarve.

“This recommendation validates a way of approaching gastronomy: focused on the product, respect for the producer, the uniqueness of the territory and the influence of the Atlantic, as well as the consistency of daily work, rather than the immediate pursuit of distinctions.”

Leading the kitchen is Diogo Pereira, trained at the Porto School of Hospitality and Tourism. A chef and also a fisherman, he maintains a close relationship with the sea that is reflected in Coral’s gastronomic approach. He began his career at the InterContinental Porto – Palácio das Cardosas before joining Vilalara in 2017.

Coral will reopen on April 2, operating exclusively for dinner and welcoming both hotel guests and external visitors. With only 22 seats, the restaurant offers an intimate dining experience centred on tasting menus, each designed to reflect the moment of the territory and the availability of seasonal products.

Located in Porches, in the Algarve, Vilalara Grand Hotel Algarve occupies 11 hectares of gardens with direct access to Praia das Gaivotas. The resort features 131 accommodation units, including suites and residences, and offers a range of experiences combining hospitality, gastronomy and wellness.
