Eleven volunteer firefighters from the Fundão Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters have been arrested today by PJ Judicial Police (PJ) on suspicion of having raped another 19-year-old firefighter ‘in a dubious initiation ritual”.
According to reports, the rapes took place on two separate occasions, on the young firefighter’s first two shifts at the Fundão and Soalheira fire stations.
It was the alleged victim who filed the complaint, supported by Fundão fire station command, which cooperated with the PJ at all times, writes Lusa.
The arrested men will now be brought before judicial authorities for the application of appropriate bail measures.
The investigation, in which firefighters are suspected of two crimes of rape, and one of sexual coercion, is being conducted by the Castelo Branco Public Prosecutor’s Office.
