Lagos: Boavista invests €50 million in new hotel

Scheduled to be ready in 2027, investment will create 170 jobs

Construction is already underway on the new hotel of Quinta da Boavista – Empreendimentos Turísticos SA, under the aegis of the Emerson Group.

During a presentation ceremony to official bodies and partners on Monday, July 21, architect and project manager Luís Nóbrega explained this will be a hotel “that reinforces Quinta da Boavista’s vision, ambition and commitment to the quality tourism sector. It will be developed in two distinct phases and have 500 beds spread over 242 rooms and eight suites.”

The four-star hotel will come with two restaurants, a conference centre and a wide range of wellness facilities – including a covered area with a jacuzzi, Turkish bath and sauna, as well as a modern gym.

The existing 18-hole championship golf course, designed by renowned golf course architect Howard Swan, is also seen as an additional attraction for future guests.

As Nóbrega outlined, the new complex will also leverage the completion of the sports area in the south of the resort, boasting an outdoor multi-sports court, two tennis courts, four padel courts and a children’s playground.

“We’re also going to reinforce the sense of family that Quinta da Boavista wants to promote,” said Luís Nóbrega.

The project has been welcomed by both Turismo de Portugal and Lagos Town Hall. It has a scheduled soft-launch for the spring of 2027.

With already 25 years’ experience working in the resort, Nóbrega recalls that the Emerson Group, founded in the UK 66 years ago, has been present in Portugal since 1970.

“In 1999, Mr Peter Emerson Jones found a stagnant development here in Boavista, with its future in doubt (…) he saw extraordinary potential in line with his vision of a strategic change for the region.”

Today, Boavista Golf & Spa “is already a benchmark, recognised for its natural beauty, the quality of its services and its emblematic golf course”.

In short, “this is a strategic investment for the municipality of Lagos as well as the wider region. It will not only boost the local economy by creating jobs, but also by attracting new visitors. It will reinforce Lagos’ position as a stimulus of excellence, where nature, authenticity and innovation go hand-in-hand. We are convinced that we are taking an important step for the whole community,” concludes Nóbrega.

Also at the ceremony, Lagos mayor Hugo Pereira was full of praise for Quinta da Boavista, recalling that the golf course has been a pioneer in environmental concerns and water management.

In fact, “Boavista is not just a hotel or property development. It’s more than that. It has a very marked presence in the city, it has very sustainable growth, which never hurts in urban terms,” said Pereira – a ’city concept” that is in line with the policies of the current municipal executive.

“We want a city that is very soft, not massively urbanised. This project is almost like a natural lung and that is clearly a great advantage,” enthused the mayor.
