The Portimão Motor Park celebrated its third anniversary this week.
Following only seven months of construction work the most modern race track in Europe opened its doors on November 2, 2008.
Three years later the International Autodrome of the Algarve has done much to make the world of motor sport aware of the region as well as creating jobs and revenue outside the traditional and seasonal tourism sector.
During the past 36 months the staple diet of top class racing has been supplemented by the establishment of a state-of-the-art driving school, an international karting venue praised as one of the best of its type, an off-road circuit and a commercial centre as well as a five-star hotel.
Furthermore the next phase involving luxury apartments and a technology park housing on-site research and development is nearing completion.
Managing Director Paulo Pinheiro, whose visionary dedication to the project finally led to its inception, and his team have achieved a small miracle- the Algarve is no longer famed solely for its beaches, mild climate and golf courses but has firmly established a niche for itself in global motor sports.
