Stand Ahoy! A BLiP on the horizon …

Meet the APAA team at the Better Living in Portugal exhibition - Community Stand CB4

afpop’s BLiP Expo 2025 will be an enormous challenge for the local community. Girding their loins and hoping for a soft landing will be APAA’s team on Community Stand CB4.

Jenny Clarke, president of the Association for Protection of Animals Algarve, and Jackie, their treasurer, will be busy assembling the stand the day before. “We are looking for a good turnout again this year. Karen Stanton, a warm-hearted member, has sponsored our APAA bookmark, a free giveaway to stand visitors, so you better get there whilst stocks last!” That also goes for the on-sale homemade jams, chutneys and cookies.

‘Rafa’, an abandoned 18-month German Shepherd, went to Pet Park some three years ago. “Despite a lot of interest, the right person just didn’t turn up.” Gary Hulme from Pet Park grins. “But never say die! A couple of weeks ago, a young man from Budens, who already has dogs, fell in love with Rafa.” Wendy is happy-sad. “He was with us and integrated straight away. But now he has a real forever home.”

Meanwhile, dog trainer Gail Skinner and Lianne are busy working with ‘Amigo’. “It’s complicated because he is terrified by everything and everyone. He’s a beautiful dog and will eventually be a wonderful pet.” Jenny has high hopes for this dog.

Jenny has several cats/kittens that need re-homing. “They came to be nurtured and cared for and now need a proper home. A couple will be going to the ‘Gato’ (cat) section of the Portimão Canil (kennels) under the care of Mandy.” Jenny needs the space for new emergencies.

APAA’s recent Murder Mystery was a huge success, with several Poirots and Ms Marples to adjudicate. Paul apparently took the floor with his natural theatrical flair and ease, stepping in when someone had to step out.
