Summer started last weekend but its arrival will be truly felt starting Friday
Portugal is bracing for a full-on heatwave, with temperatures expected to climb above 40ºC in several parts of the country over the coming days.
According to the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the sharp temperature rise will begin towards the end of the week, turning up the heat just in time for the weekend.
With maximum temperatures currently above 30ºC in most parts of the country, Portugal is expecting scorching highs of around 40ºC in regions like the Alentejo, the Algarve and even Lisbon.
Tropical nights are also forecast as minimums will unlikely drop below 20ºC in most of the country.
Weather forecasts are updated daily on IPMA’s website.
