Algarve hope Jose Maria Joia obtained the best result of any Portuguese golfer this year last weekend.
The 20-year-old UCF student took fifth place at the American Universities Championships with a two-under total of 214, three strokes behind joint winners Justin Dorward and Chris Pledger.
Closer to home Antonio Rosado claimed the opening round of the PGA Portugal Pro-Am Series on the Quinta do Peru course near Sesimbra.
