Searches have begun for a young man who went missing yesterday, after going underwater fishing with two friends off Ponta da Atalaia, in Aljezur.
The 30-year-old entered the water with his companions, the agreement being that they would all meet up again in the middle of the afternoon. But he did not return.
The alert was raised at 4pm, and there was time for maritime police to organise a search team of divers from UNISA (the intervention unit in water rescues), while local firefighters sent up a drone.
Unfortunately, by the time darkness fell there had been no news.
Searches will continue today, while psychological support is already being given to the family through the national maritime authority. ND
